A visit to the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation provided the opportunity for students of different learning areas of Center for Innovative & Lifetime Learning to have hand on industrial experience in the audiovisual sector. We had the opportunity to visit the pre-production, production and post production units.
Introduction:
The field trip started around 10 a.m at the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation situated at Moka. A group of about 60 students of the faculty of Center for Innovative & Lifetime Learning participated. The main objectives of this trip is to acquire visual experience and knowledge about the different production stages and the process of footage assemblage. The trip turned out to be a fruitful learning experience as it enable us to be more proactive in the audiovisual domain.
Pre-production:
The visit started with the support of a guide explaining us the rudiments of pre-production stages. I felt amazed by the light arrangement and sophisticated equipment present on the set. The technicians were working on the interior decor of a singing competition. The guide explain us how they use filters for caption light and setting of different angles. This stage is crucial to successful production as it englobes the planning and design stages.
Production:
I visited the set of Le Millionaire where I had the opportunity to  visually experience the lighting, sound and professional set of cameras used for the program. I also was astonished by the sitting arrangement as well as the green and blue background. This arouse a feeling of pride to have such dedicated team of professional technicians working for the national channels.
Post-Production:
The most interesting phase of this visit was the post production room where we had the chance to visualize the footage assemblage. The technicians were editing the visuals and sound design while preparing the final cut before broadcast. The room was filled with the latest technologies such as special keyboard and high resolution screen. I was impressed by the software used for the process of editing.

Recommendation and Reflection:
- High temperature and unpleasant work setting for technicians need remediation. There is a need to have well ventilated areas and corridors to maximize the level of productivity.
- Need for better infrastructure and state of art access to different department. This will increase the comfort level of employees as well as the visitors of the MBC.
- This visit provided me with a realia experience of the audiovisual life. Furthermore, we were acquainted with the industrial needs of the audiovisual sector with respect to choice of career.
